The firm advises users to cross-check information on official channels before engaging in any activities online. They warn that phishing attacks have become very crafty, focusing on crypto holders to steal their digital assets. Phishing scams have been a big problem for cybersecurity especially in the world of crypto space. According to blockchain security-focused company CertiK, phishing attacks caused a loss of over $1 billion in the year 2024. These scams were found to be the most financially damaging attack last year.
Another major threat was private key problems, which resulted in additional losses of $855 million in 2024. The total losses from hacks and scams increased by 21% compared to 2023, with incidents increasing from 282 to 303, according to CertiK. This has made centralized systems the prime targets for cybercriminals. Chainanalysis saw a large focus in 2024 on attempts to break into centralized services and private keys.
