Circle is taking USDC onto one of the biggest stages in global sports. The stablecoin issuer has become Chelsea FC’s new principal partner and front-of-shirt sponsor, putting the USDC brand across the club’s men’s, women’s and academy jerseys beginning with the 2026/27 season.
The partnership marks the first time a crypto financial services company has become the primary front-of-shirt sponsor of a Premier League club, moving crypto branding from the sleeves to the center of one of soccer’s most recognizable jerseys.
USDC Takes Center Stage at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea will debut the new USDC-branded jersey during its first Premier League home match of the season against Brighton on Sunday.
Circle’s branding will appear across Chelsea’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, giving USDC exposure to the club’s massive international fanbase.
The partnership includes:
- USDC branding on the front of Chelsea jerseys
- Men’s, women’s and academy teams
- Partnership beginning with the 2026/27 season
- Circle becoming an official Principal Partner
- First crypto financial services company to secure a Premier League club’s primary shirt position
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said the partnership connects USDC’s borderless approach to money with soccer’s similarly global reach.
Chelsea’s Jersey Deal Could Be Worth Big Money
Neither Circle nor Chelsea disclosed the financial terms.
However, reports earlier this year indicated Chelsea was seeking approximately £65 million per year, or $88.3 million, for the front-of-shirt sponsorship position.
The spot had reportedly remained vacant for three years, making Circle’s arrival particularly significant.
It’s important to note that the reported $88.3 million figure was Chelsea’s targeted sponsorship price, not a confirmed amount Circle agreed to pay.
Crypto Has Been Moving Across Premier League Jerseys
Crypto sponsorship isn’t new to English soccer, but the location of Circle’s branding makes this deal different.
OKX previously became a sleeve sponsor for Manchester City, while Kraken secured a similar position with Tottenham Hotspur. CoinDesk reports that OKX’s Manchester City arrangement was previously valued at approximately $70 million annually.
Circle is now moving beyond the sleeve.
Having USDC directly across the chest of Chelsea players gives a stablecoin the type of mainstream brand placement traditionally occupied by airlines, banks, telecommunications companies and global consumer brands.
Circle Is Pushing USDC Further Into the Mainstream
The sponsorship comes as Circle attempts to position USDC as financial infrastructure rather than simply another cryptocurrency.
As of August 27, Circle reported approximately $73.7 billion in USDC circulation, with the stablecoin natively issued across 37 blockchains.
The company has increasingly focused on payments, cross-border transactions and institutional financial infrastructure as stablecoins gain greater regulatory recognition.
Chelsea gives Circle something blockchain partnerships can’t easily provide — mainstream global visibility every week.
A Premier League broadcast doesn’t require viewers to understand wallets, blockchains or DeFi. Millions of soccer fans will simply see USDC printed across a Chelsea jersey.
Crypto Just Scored One of Its Biggest Sports Sponsorships
Crypto companies have spent years attaching their brands to major sports. Exchanges have sponsored arenas, Formula 1 teams, NBA franchises and soccer clubs.
Circle’s Chelsea deal represents a different phase.
Instead of an exchange advertising crypto trading, one of the world’s largest stablecoins itself is becoming the brand.
The partnership doesn’t mean Chelsea players are being paid in USDC or that fans will suddenly need stablecoins to buy tickets. It’s primarily a sponsorship and branding agreement. Circle also makes clear that the partnership isn’t an invitation for UK consumers to acquire or trade cryptoassets.
But the symbolism is hard to miss.
A digital dollar that once existed mostly inside crypto exchanges will now be printed across the front of one of the Premier League’s most recognizable jerseys.
For USDC, that’s about as mainstream as crypto advertising gets.
