Elon Musk’s X is turning financial conversations into a gateway for investing by adding trading links directly to its Cashtags feature. U.S. users can now tap tickers such as $BTC or $AAPL, view live market data and then jump directly to Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers or Moomoo to complete a trade.
X originally expanded Cashtags earlier this year to provide live price charts and market conversations for stocks and cryptocurrencies.
The latest update takes that feature a step further.
When U.S. users tap a supported stock, ETF or crypto Cashtag, they can now see the asset’s chart, related conversations and a new Trade button. Selecting it displays participating financial platforms where the user can continue the transaction.
The initial trading partners include:
For crypto users, the integration dramatically shortens the distance between discovering information and acting on it.
Someone reading a discussion involving $BTC, for example, can tap the Cashtag, view Bitcoin’s live market information and select a supported crypto exchange to continue toward a purchase or sale.
Interactive Brokers similarly confirmed that users can search for tickers such as $AAPL or $BTC on X, view market information and then use the embedded Trade button to access its platform.
That creates a financial funnel entirely centered around X’s timeline: conversation → market data → brokerage → trade.
Despite bringing trading considerably closer to the timeline, X itself isn’t acting as the exchange or broker executing these transactions.
After selecting Trade, users are redirected to the participating brokerage or crypto exchange, where they must sign in or create an account and complete the transaction.
That distinction is important because earlier descriptions of Smart Cashtags created expectations that users might eventually execute trades without leaving X.
For now, X is providing the discovery and market-data layer while licensed exchanges and brokerages handle the actual transactions.
X began rolling out its redesigned Cashtags feature in April for iPhone users in the United States and Canada.
The initial version allowed users to browse real-time stock and cryptocy information directly from posts. Searching an asset or crypto contract address could also surface a corresponding Cashtag.
The trading links represent the next stage of that rollout.
X Product Engineering lead Mridul Singhai said the goal is to close the gap between seeing a ticker in a conversation and accessing the actual market.
The feature fits into Elon Musk’s broader vision of turning X into an “everything app” where social media, payments, financial information and other services operate through a single platform.
Financial discussions already represent a major part of X’s identity, particularly among crypto traders who have long used the platform to follow breaking news, market sentiment and projects.
Adding brokerage links turns those conversations into potential customer-acquisition channels for companies such as Coinbase, Kraken and Interactive Brokers.
X still isn’t a Bitcoin exchange or stock brokerage, but the boundary between its social timeline and financial markets is getting considerably thinner. By connecting real-time conversations, price charts and trading platforms through a single Cashtag, X is positioning itself as the layer between discovering a market opportunity and actually trading it.
