New Bitcoin Transfer and Ransom Demand Surface in Nancy Guthrie Missing Persons Case

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, are now examining new activity tied to a Bitcoin wallet referenced in alleged ransom communications — including a fresh ransom demand reportedly for 1 Bitcoin

Guthrie was reported missing from her Catalina Foothills, Arizona home on Feb. 1, 2026, and law enforcement has since treated her disappearance as a possible abduction after signs of forced entry and blood evidence were found at the residence.

Bitcoin Wallet Activity and New Demand

Investigators say that a Bitcoin address mentioned in earlier ransom notes showed recent activity, with a small transfer — reportedly less than a few hundred dollars — recorded to the wallet this week. It is unclear whether this transfer was connected directly to the abduction investigation or was a test transaction.

Alongside this activity, at least one new message surfaced demanding 1 Bitcoin (worth around $67,500 at current prices) in exchange for information related to the case. The communication was reported to media outlets, including TMZ, though authorities have not confirmed its authenticity or whether it came from the same source as earlier ransom notes.

Earlier Ransom Notes and Imposter Arrest

Multiple ransom letters have been circulated during the investigation. Some demanded large Bitcoin payments — including a purported demand of $6 million in Bitcoin by Feb. 9 — and included specific details about Guthrie’s home and belongings. Authorities have neither confirmed nor ruled out the validity of these notes, and deadlines tied to them have passed without proof of life or further contact from the alleged abductors.

In a separate development, federal agents arrested a California man for allegedly sending fake ransom texts to Guthrie family members demanding Bitcoin, but that individual was not linked to the primary ransom notes and has been charged separately.

Investigation and Surveillance Footage

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, have released surveillance imagery and video of an armed, masked individual at Guthrie’s home in the early morning hours after her disappearance. Investigators believe the person may be a key suspect, though no charges have been announced tied to the main ransom situation.

A person of interest was detained and later released after questioning, and authorities continue to canvass the area and review camera footage from neighbors and residences near Guthrie’s home.

Family Pleas and Ongoing Search

Guthrie’s children — including Savannah, Annie and Camron — released emotional public pleas for help, urging anyone with information to come forward. The FBI has also offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

Investigators are urging anyone with security footage from around the time of the disappearance — particularly from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 — to share it with law enforcement to help piece together Guthrie’s movements and identify potential suspects.
