Global Adoption

Coinbase Brings 24/5 U.S. Stock Trading to UK Users as It Builds an Everything Exchange

Coinbase has launched 24-hour, five-day-a-week trading for nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks for eligible customers in the United Kingdom, marking another major step toward its vision of becoming an “Everything Exchange.” The rollout allows UK users to buy and sell U.S. equities alongside cryptocurrencies within a single Coinbase account, offering zero-commission tradingfractional investing, and funding through British pounds (GBP) or USDC. The expansion further blurs the line between traditional finance and digital assets as Coinbase continues transforming into a multi-asset financial platform.

The launch reflects Coinbase’s long-term strategy of integrating traditional financial products with blockchain infrastructure. Rather than limiting users to cryptocy trading, the company is building a unified platform where stocks, stablecoins, tokenized assets, and digital currencies coexist. Coinbase executives say the move is designed to make investing more accessible while laying the foundation for a future where traditional and on-chain finance operate together.

Nearly 4,000 U.S. Stocks Available

Eligible UK customers can now access thousands of publicly traded American companies directly through the Coinbase app.

Key features include:

  • Nearly 4,000 U.S.-listed stocks.
  • 24/5 trading during the trading week.
  • Zero-commission trades.
  • Fractional share investing starting from as little as £1.
  • Funding using GBP or USDC.

The phased rollout makes Coinbase the first crypto-native trading platform to offer U.S. equities to retail customers in the United Kingdom.

Building the Everything Exchange

Coinbase says stock trading is only one part of a much larger strategy.

The company’s long-term vision includes bringing together:

  • Cryptocurrencies.
  • U.S. equities.
  • Stablecoins.
  • Tokenized real-world assets.
  • Payments.
  • On-chain financial services.

By combining traditional investing with blockchain-based products, Coinbase hopes to become a single destination for managing virtually every type of financial asset.

Bridging Traditional Finance and Blockchain

According to Keith Grose, CEO of Coinbase UK, the expansion is intended to close the gap between conventional financial markets and decentralized finance.

Instead of forcing users to maintain separate brokerage and crypto accounts, Coinbase allows customers to manage both asset classes from one platform. The company believes this integrated experience will become increasingly important as tokenization and blockchain settlement continue expanding across global financial markets.

Competing Beyond Crypto

The launch places Coinbase in more direct competition with traditional online brokerages and fintech investment platforms.

Rather than competing solely with cryptocy exchanges, Coinbase is now challenging firms that offer:

  • Stock trading.
  • ETFs.
  • Fractional investing.
  • Cash management.
  • Multi-asset portfolios.

The expansion also complements Coinbase’s growing investments in stablecoins, derivatives, tokenized assets, and institutional blockchain infrastructure.

UK Expansion Comes First

The new stock trading service is currently limited to eligible users in the United Kingdom.

Coinbase has not announced when similar functionality will expand into additional international markets, although executives have indicated that building a global multi-asset platform remains a long-term priority. The company already offers stock trading in the United States and is using the UK launch to strengthen its international presence.
