OpenSea is making another run at the Solana NFT market more than four years after its first attempt failed to gain meaningful traction. The marketplace has restored Solana NFT trading through its rebuilt OS2 platform, allowing collectors to discover, buy and sell collections including Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, Collector Crypt and Phygitals alongside assets from more than 25 other blockchains.
The move gives OpenSea another shot at a Solana ecosystem that looks very different from the one it entered in 2022 — while the broader NFT market itself remains far smaller than during the last bull-market boom.
OpenSea Tried Solana Back in 2022
This isn’t OpenSea’s first attempt to bring Solana NFTs onto its marketplace.
The company initially introduced Solana support in April 2022, when the NFT market was near the height of its popularity. That beta included roughly 165 collections, but OpenSea struggled to build a major presence on the network.
Solana-native marketplaces such as Magic Eden and Tensor ultimately captured most of the network’s NFT trading activity.
Four years later, OpenSea is trying again.
This time, Solana is being integrated into OS2, OpenSea’s rebuilt multi-chain marketplace that combines NFTs, fungible tokens, cross-chain swaps and portfolio management.
OpenSea had already restored Solana fungible-token trading in April 2025, with the company saying NFT support would eventually follow.
Now it has.
Mad Lads and Claynosaurz Join OpenSea
OpenSea’s Solana integration gives collectors access to several recognizable collections from the ecosystem, including:
- Claynosaurz
- Mad Lads
- BoDoggos
- Collector Crypt
- Phygitals
Collectors can browse, purchase and sell those assets alongside NFTs and tokens from OpenSea’s other supported networks.
OpenSea co-founder and CEO Devin Finzer said the company’s goal is to make OpenSea a single destination for collectibles regardless of which blockchain they use.
That multi-chain strategy has become increasingly important to OpenSea.
OS2 now supports more than 25 blockchains, while combining previously separate crypto experiences into one interface.
Solana Becomes OpenSea’s Big Non-EVM NFT Play
Solana’s addition is particularly notable because most of OpenSea’s supported NFT networks are Ethereum or EVM-compatible chains.
Those include networks such as:
Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Base, Monad, Sei and Berachain.
Solana uses a fundamentally different architecture.
That makes it OpenSea’s first non-EVM blockchain for NFT trading since the company’s original Solana beta ended, broadening the marketplace beyond its traditional Ethereum-centered ecosystem.
OpenSea and Magic Eden Are Moving in Opposite Directions
The timing also creates an interesting reversal between two longtime NFT rivals.
While OpenSea is expanding deeper into Solana, Magic Eden has been pulling back from its broader multi-chain strategy.
Earlier this year, Magic Eden shut down its Bitcoin and EVM NFT marketplaces to refocus resources on Solana.
That leaves the two companies pursuing almost opposite strategies.
Magic Eden → doubling down on its Solana roots
OpenSea → bringing Solana into a marketplace spanning 25+ blockchains
OpenSea is effectively betting that collectors increasingly want one platform capable of handling assets across multiple ecosystems instead of separate marketplaces for every blockchain.
OpenSea Returns to a Much Smaller NFT Market
There’s one major difference between OpenSea’s Solana launches in 2022 and 2026.
The NFT market isn’t nearly as large as it used to be.
During the 2021 and 2022 NFT boom, monthly marketplace trading volumes regularly reached billions of dollars.
Today, monthly volumes are generally measured in the hundreds of millions, according to The Block’s data.
Several major NFT platforms have disappeared along the way.
Binance NFT, Nifty Gateway, Kraken NFT and X2Y2 have all shut down their NFT marketplace operations in recent years.
OpenSea itself has responded by expanding beyond NFTs. Its OS2 platform now includes regular token trading and cross-chain swaps, reflecting the company’s attempt to become a broader crypto trading platform rather than relying exclusively on digital collectibles.
Solana NFT Competition Is Heating Up Again
OpenSea isn’t the only multi-chain NFT marketplace suddenly looking toward Solana.
Rarible returned to Solana in August, launching a new marketplace with Claynosaurz as its first featured collection.
Now OpenSea is arriving with Claynosaurz among its own initial supported collections.
Meanwhile, Magic Eden and Tensor already have established Solana audiences.
That gives creators another potential distribution channel while putting OpenSea into direct competition with marketplaces that built their businesses around Solana while OpenSea was largely absent.
OpenSea Is Betting NFTs Still Have Another Chapter
The return to Solana is notable precisely because the NFT market has contracted so dramatically.
OpenSea could have responded to declining NFT activity by moving entirely toward fungible-token trading. Instead, the company is continuing to build NFT infrastructure while expanding into other types of digital assets.
Solana gives that strategy access to one of crypto’s most active communities for collectibles, memecoins and consumer applications.
And unlike OpenSea’s limited 2022 experiment, Solana is now being plugged directly into a marketplace designed from the beginning to support multiple chains and asset types.
OpenSea missed its chance to dominate Solana NFTs during the last NFT boom. Four years later, it’s coming back for another shot — this time with an entirely rebuilt platform and a much broader vision than NFTs alone.
