$1.1 Trillion Asset Manager Schroders Brings Emerging Markets Bond Fund to Solana Blockchain

Global investment management giant Schroders, which oversees approximately $1.1 trillion in assets, has partnered with blockchain tokenization platform Centrifuge to bring its emerging markets bond investment strategy to the Solana blockchain. Announced on November 4, 2026, the launch introduces tokenized exposure to the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond, allowing eligible investors to hold blockchain-based shares connected to an actively managed portfolio of government and corporate debt from developing economies. The initiative marks Schroders’ first deployment on Solana and represents a significant expansion of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization beyond U.S. Treasury securities and money market funds. With more than $39 billion in tokenized real-world assets tracked across blockchain networks, the partnership demonstrates how traditional asset managers are increasingly bringing sophisticated investment strategies into decentralized financial infrastructure.

Schroders Partners With Centrifuge to Launch Tokenized Bond Fund

On November 4, Schroders, one of the world’s oldest and largest investment management companies, announced the launch of a tokenized emerging markets debt strategy through its partnership with Centrifuge.

The London-based financial institution, founded more than 200 years ago, manages approximately $1.1 trillion (£867.8 billion) in assets as of June 2026.

The new blockchain-based investment product provides exposure to the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond, an actively managed strategy investing in debt securities issued by governments and corporations across developing economies.

Rather than launching an entirely new investment strategy, Schroders is using blockchain infrastructure to create an additional distribution channel for an existing investment product.

Centrifuge provides the technology required to tokenize ownership interests, manage blockchain-based fund shares and connect traditional financial assets with digital capital markets.

The partnership represents Schroders’ first deployment on the Solana network, expanding the company’s existing efforts to integrate blockchain technology into institutional asset management.

Marita McGinley, Schroders’ Head of Operations for APAC and Digital Assets, described the initiative as part of the company’s commitment to developing investment solutions for an increasingly digital financial environment.

The launch also reflects a growing trend among major financial institutions seeking to distribute traditional investment products through public blockchain networks.

How Schroders’ Tokenized Emerging Markets Bond Fund Works

The tokenized investment product operates through a feeder fund structure, allowing investors to gain exposure to Schroders’ existing emerging markets bond strategy.

A feeder fund is an investment vehicle that pools investor capital and allocates it into another underlying investment fund.

In this arrangement, investors purchase blockchain-based shares representing their ownership in the feeder fund, which then invests in Schroders’ traditional bond portfolio.

The structure allows the underlying assets to remain managed through established financial systems while blockchain technology records and facilitates ownership of the tokenized fund shares.

The investment model includes several important components:

  • Schroders: Manages the underlying emerging markets bond investment strategy.

  • Centrifuge: Provides the infrastructure for issuing and managing tokenized fund shares.

  • Solana: Serves as the blockchain network supporting the digital representation of investor ownership.

  • Investors: Hold tokenized feeder fund shares whose value reflects the underlying investment portfolio.

The value of the tokenized shares is linked to the fund’s net asset value (NAV), which reflects the value of its underlying investments after accounting for liabilities.

Importantly, investors do not directly own individual emerging markets bonds on Solana.

Instead, they hold tokenized ownership interests in a fund that provides economic exposure to those traditional securities.

This distinction allows Schroders to maintain its existing investment management approach while introducing blockchain-based distribution and ownership infrastructure.

Emerging Markets Bonds Bring New Investment Opportunities to Blockchain

Unlike tokenized money market funds and short-term U.S. Treasury products, emerging markets debt provides exposure to a more complex range of financial assets.

Emerging markets bonds are debt securities issued by governments, corporations and other borrowers in developing economies.

These investments can offer different sources of income and portfolio diversification compared with conventional U.S. government securities.

However, they also introduce additional risks involving cy fluctuations, political developments, economic conditions and the creditworthiness of borrowers.

Schroders’ emerging markets debt strategy includes investments across several categories:

  • Sovereign debt: Bonds issued by national governments in emerging economies.

  • Corporate debt: Securities issued by businesses operating in developing markets.

  • Local-cy debt: Bonds denominated in the domestic currencies of emerging market countries.

The strategy is actively managed, meaning investment professionals make decisions about which securities to purchase, hold or sell based on economic conditions and market opportunities.

Schroders has more than 50 years of experience managing emerging markets debt and employs over 40 investment professionals specializing in the asset class.

John Mensack, Senior Investment Director of Fixed Income at Schroders, emphasized the importance of investment experience and local market knowledge when managing emerging markets debt.

By introducing this strategy to blockchain infrastructure, Schroders and Centrifuge are expanding the types of traditional financial products available through tokenized investment structures.

Centrifuge Expands Beyond Tokenized U.S. Treasuries and Money Market Funds

The partnership represents another milestone for Centrifuge, a blockchain-based asset tokenization platform that connects traditional financial products with decentralized financial infrastructure.

Centrifuge has become an important participant in the institutional RWA market, providing technology that allows asset managers to issue and manage tokenized investment products across multiple blockchain networks.

According to CoinDesk, the platform has supported more than $750 million in tokenized assets.

Much of the early growth in institutional tokenization has centered on relatively conservative investment products, particularly U.S. Treasury bills and money market funds.

These instruments have attracted attention because they allow investors to earn yields on traditional financial assets while maintaining blockchain-based ownership records.

However, the Schroders partnership introduces a different investment model involving actively managed debt portfolios with exposure to emerging economies.

Anil Sood, Centrifuge’s Chief Strategy and Growth Officer, explained that emerging markets debt introduces additional sources of investment risk and return beyond the cash-equivalent products that have dominated early tokenization activity.

The company has also expanded its institutional partnerships beyond Schroders.

Earlier initiatives include a partnership with New York Life Investment Management to introduce a tokenized high-yield corporate bond strategy.

Centrifuge has also worked with Janus Henderson on tokenized investment products, demonstrating its efforts to support multiple asset classes and blockchain ecosystems.

These partnerships suggest that tokenization providers are increasingly competing to become infrastructure partners for traditional asset managers rather than focusing exclusively on cryptocy-native financial products.

Solana Strengthens Position in Institutional Real-World Asset Tokenization

The decision to launch Schroders’ tokenized bond strategy on Solana represents another institutional adoption milestone for the blockchain network.

Solana is widely recognized for its high transaction throughput, relatively low transaction fees and ability to support financial applications operating on public blockchain infrastructure.

These characteristics have attracted interest from financial technology companies, asset managers and blockchain developers seeking to tokenize traditional financial products.

According to Centrifuge, Solana currently supports more than $4 billion in tokenized real-world asset value.

The Schroders launch introduces another actively managed investment strategy into that ecosystem.

Nick Ducoff, Head of Institutional Growth at the Solana Foundation, described the partnership as evidence that blockchain-based capital markets are expanding beyond simple tokenized cash products.

The development also demonstrates how public blockchains are becoming increasingly relevant to institutional financial services.

Historically, major financial institutions have favored private or permissioned blockchain networks because of concerns involving regulatory compliance, transaction privacy and operational control.

However, the growing availability of institutional-grade tokenization infrastructure is allowing traditional asset managers to explore public networks while maintaining conventional fund management and compliance structures.

For Solana, the addition of a major global asset manager could strengthen its position as a platform for tokenized investment products.

Nevertheless, the launch does not mean that Schroders’ entire $1.1 trillion portfolio is moving onto Solana, and the company has not disclosed the initial value of assets allocated to the tokenized fund.

Schroders Builds on Earlier Tokenization Efforts in Europe

Although the emerging markets bond fund represents Schroders’ first deployment on Solana, the company has already begun exploring blockchain-based investment products.

In August 2026, Schroders received regulatory approval in Ireland for its first tokenized share class of a U.S. dollar money market fund.

The product, known as Schroders Onchain Active Returns (SOAR), was designed to provide blockchain-based access to a traditional money market investment strategy.

The earlier initiative focused on relatively conservative financial instruments, while the new emerging markets bond product introduces exposure to more complex fixed-income investments.

Together, the projects demonstrate how Schroders is gradually expanding its digital asset strategy across different investment categories.

The company is not abandoning traditional fund structures or replacing its existing investment management operations.

Instead, it is experimenting with how blockchain infrastructure can improve the distribution, ownership recording and potential integration of conventional investment products into digital financial markets.

This approach allows established asset managers to explore tokenization while preserving their existing investment expertise and regulatory responsibilities.

Tokenized Real-World Asset Market Reaches $39 Billion

Schroders’ expansion comes as the broader real-world asset tokenization market continues attracting institutional investment.

According to data from RWA.xyz cited by CoinDesk, the market includes approximately $39 billion in tokenized real-world assets, with U.S. Treasuries and money market funds accounting for roughly $14 billion.

These figures illustrate the significant role that fixed-income investments have played in the development of blockchain-based financial products.

However, the market is gradually expanding to include additional categories such as corporate bonds, private credit, equities and actively managed investment strategies.

Other major asset managers are also entering the sector.

Federated Hermes, which oversees approximately $911 billion in assets, announced plans in October to introduce its first tokenized fund shares in early 2027.

Meanwhile, New York Life Investment Management, which manages more than $800 billion, has partnered with Centrifuge to bring a high-yield corporate bond strategy onto blockchain infrastructure.

The participation of these institutions demonstrates that tokenization is becoming a broader strategic priority within traditional asset management.

Rather than focusing exclusively on cryptocurrencies, financial institutions are exploring how blockchain technology can support the ownership and distribution of conventional securities.

Tokenization Creates Opportunities but Does Not Eliminate Investment Risks

While blockchain technology can improve the infrastructure used to issue and manage investment products, it does not eliminate the financial risks associated with the underlying assets.

Schroders’ emerging markets bond strategy remains exposed to fluctuations in interest rates, foreign exchange markets, government creditworthiness and economic conditions across developing countries.

Tokenization changes how investors hold and potentially transfer their ownership interests, but the value of those interests continues to depend on the performance of the underlying bond portfolio.

Additionally, blockchain-based fund shares do not automatically guarantee continuous liquidity or unrestricted trading.

Investor eligibility, redemption procedures, transfer restrictions and applicable securities regulations continue to determine how tokenized investment products can be accessed and traded.

The initial size of the Schroders tokenized offering has not been disclosed, and its long-term adoption will depend on investor demand and the practical benefits of blockchain-based distribution.

Nevertheless, the partnership demonstrates how traditional financial institutions can introduce sophisticated investment strategies into blockchain ecosystems without fundamentally changing their underlying investment objectives.

Schroders’ Solana Launch Signals New Era for Institutional Tokenization

The partnership between Schroders and Centrifuge represents an important step in the evolution of institutional blockchain adoption.

For years, much of the cryptocy industry’s real-world asset tokenization activity focused on converting relatively straightforward financial products, such as U.S. Treasury securities and money market funds, into blockchain-based representations.

Schroders is extending that model to actively managed emerging markets debt, introducing a broader range of investment strategies to public blockchain infrastructure.

The development is particularly significant because it combines the expertise of a $1.1 trillion global asset manager with a tokenization platform designed to connect traditional finance and decentralized markets.

For Solana, the launch strengthens its growing institutional ecosystem and demonstrates how blockchain networks can support financial applications beyond cryptocy trading and decentralized exchanges.

For Centrifuge, the partnership reinforces its position as a technology provider connecting established investment managers with digital capital markets.

And for the broader financial industry, the initiative highlights how tokenization is evolving from experimental projects into an alternative distribution model for traditional investment products.

Although the long-term impact will depend on investor adoption, regulatory developments and operational performance, the launch demonstrates that institutional real-world asset tokenization is moving beyond tokenized cash and into more sophisticated investment strategies.

As additional financial institutions bring bonds, equities and professionally managed portfolios onto blockchain networks, the connection between traditional capital markets and decentralized financial infrastructure is likely to become increasingly important.
